    I came across this blog post on the American Bar Association website By Dennis Kennedy and Tom Mighell.  Here's a quote that caught my attention:

    "In talking to many lawyers about social media, we’ve found that their natural reticence to try new technologies, combined with a natural suspicion of the hype and overpromises made by social media “gurus,” leads to a limited understanding of what can be done with social media, not just for marketing but for other purposes as well.

    In this article, we want to step back and take a closer look at the potential non-marketing benefits of social media for lawyers.  Once you understand that social media serves purposes other than marketing, you can better evaluate whether or not it makes sense for you."

    What I like about this article is that it isn't questioning whether or not attorneys should be involved with social media, but moreso emphasizes how well you do social media.  In reality, to execute all the elements the article mentions, you'd have little time left for the legal work you have in the pipeline.  Having a professional social media expert to relieve you of the burden it takes to actually put into action the various activities this article refers to makes perfect sense for your firm.

    Twitter Study Validates Why Your Business Needs to Get Involved on Twitter

    Mashable writer, Erica Swallow, recently blogged about a study conducted by Constant Contact and research firm Chadwick Martin Bailey.  It analyzed the behavior of 1,491 consumers ages 18 and older throughout the U.S., and revealed a number of details about how people interact with brands on Twitter.

    Here are some key findings:

    - The study found that 60% of brand followers are more likely to recommend a brand to a friend after following the brand on Twitter, and 50% of brand followers are more likely to buy from that brand.

    -The top five responses regarding why consumers decide to follow a brand/business on Twitter:

    • 64%: I am a customer of the company
    • 61%: To be the first to know information about the brand
    • 48%: To receive discounts and promotions
    • 36%: To gain access to exclusive content
    • 28%: To receive content/information to retweet and share with others

    - 50% of Twitter users in the study reported going online more than once per hour.

    - Twitter users even use Facebook more than users who stick solely to Facebook — 60% of Twitter users use Facebook more than three hours per week.

    - 67% of brand followers expect unique content from the brands they follow.
